Tim Rumsey is a charismatic, young British pianist and composer based in the UK, having delighted audiences at venues including Champs Hill, V&A Museum, Chichester Cathedral and Cheltenham’s Pitville Pump Room, as well as appearances in Italy and Spain.

Tim's debut album, Transcriptions, was released in November 2025 to great critical acclaim. Ranked No.4 in Textura’s Top 20 for 2025 (Solo Instrumental) category, the album showcases Tim's love of piano transcription, featuring a wide variety of arrangements with everything from Percy Grainger's take on Fauré, to Earl Wild's take on Gershwin.  The album also features four new transcriptions by Tim himself, with works by Purcell, Dukas, Gershwin and Walton. Tim is also about to launch his own publishing website, Aurum Publications, where all of his work will be available in print.

Some of Tim’s notable past performances include Beethoven's 4th Piano Concerto with the Chichester Symphony Orchestra in Chichester Cathedral, and solo recitals at the the Pitville Pump Room in Cheltenham, St. Bride's Church in London, Champs Hill, and the Faversham Music Club. Festival collaborations have included the International Music Course in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, the Pordenone Silent Film Festival in Italy and Kennington Bioscope Weekends at the Cinema Museum.

In addition to his solo schedule, Tim is a member of The Pearl Trio, featuring piano, violin and clarinet. Tim has written a number of original compositions for the trio, as well as a chamber setting of George Gershwin's 'An American in Paris' which is one of the trio’s showpieces. Duo collobarations have included string, wind and brass, with a piano/violin tour of Scotland currently being planned for 2027.

Jazz and improvisation is an equal love for Tim, as is evident from his Transcriptions album, and he regularly enjoys playing solo sets for events and functions around the UK.  Tim took part in the 2023 Pordenone Silent Film Festival in Italy where he played a selection of feature-length films, including an appearance in the famous Teatro Verdi. He also has over five years experience playing for ballet classes and exams.

Alongside performing, Tim juggles a busy schedule of teaching and accompanying with his work at the Junior & Primary Departments of the Royal Academy of Music and St. Catherine’s School in Surrey. His day-to-day work also includes playing for choirs at the Chichester Festival Theatre as well as local singing groups around Sussex, and private teaching of piano, jazz and theory. Other professional work has included festival adjudication and playing the organ for church services.

Tim's interest in music unsurprisingly started at a young age, and he progressed from having music lessons locally to studying at the Junior Department at the Royal Academy of Music. His journey at the Academy spanned his Bachelor’s and Master of Arts degrees under the tutorledge of Carole Presland and Colin Stone, being the Wisniewski/Derwent scholar in his final years of study and finally being awarded with a DipRAM in 2023. Tim also gained the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music teaching qualification in 2021.
